Eastbound again

We are on the road again. It has been more than a month since I told you I would not bother you again until next year. It only started a minute ago and it is already 31 days into the New Year.  Last post I told you it appeared that we would return to Gleanings for the Hungry at Dinuba Ca. and that is exactly what we did. We returned there on the 27th of Dec. and immediately picked up where I left off, on the far from finished basket ball court. It was a project that made many changes as we progressed, each week I found myself with a different crew. The final weeks of the project I found myself with a crew of more mature and hard working men and we built brick retaining walls, mixed, poured and finished concreate, we shoveled, spread and leveled sand and gravel. We placed the goals for the basketball court and placed the posts for the volleyball court. When those two weeks were over, the project was complete, and the kids around the base turned the basketball court into a street hockey field and I still had a week to kill before I could escape.
During all this time Gail was doing what Gail does.  She was cleanings things. She cleaned tables and chairs, she washed windows, she cleaned bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens. She cleaned offices and reorganized storage rooms. During all this she still found time to keep track of me and make sure I didn’t over exert myself, like I would do that. She also found herself another young man to mother to death. We don’t have enough kids of our own so she keeps adding them on, the latest and probably not the last, is Chris, a young man who just came on staff the beginning of the year. On the weekends we always found something to do or someplace to see. We sometimes would just find some obscure road and follow it till we  would either run out of road or find ourselves someplace we recognized and from there find our way home. Oh, I said home. Ya, we have found ourselves referring to where ever the trailer is parked as home. The final week I helped fix a couple of golf carts, did some street sweeping, fixed a couple of cars and got our rig ready to travel, while Gail continued to find things to clean and then it happened, the sun came up this morning and it was the day to say good bye.
We started, once again, our trip East at 8:45 AM and after a day of driving we have settled into a campsite in Mojave Valley where we will try to find some rest. We are going to drive the Historical Route 66 tomorrow just because it’s there and we can. It is our plan to drive in 5-6 hour trips with a few days between them as we work our way toward Virginia where we will spend some time with Kym and Brian and the boys there. I’m going to try to post a short blog with each stop just so you will all know just how much fun two old people can have.
God Bless. With love

Back to work

Just a drive on a mountain road

Look what we found at the top

On top of the world looking down on creation

Looking for something to clean

Now look what they've done
